IGNACIO ALONSO

Ignacio Alonso’s professional career began in London at the Richard Rogers office. There he participated in the design of the Silvercup Studios in Queens (New York), Las Arenas renovation (Barcelona, Spain), Hotel Hesperia Tower (Barcelona, Spain, now Hyatt), Almada-Lisbon master plan (Lisbon, Portugal), Seoul Yoido master plan (Seoul, South Korea) and several other master plan competitions worldwide.
Back to Spain he participated in the design and construction of the headquarters for Spanish car manufacturer SEAT - Volkswagen Group, completed in 2007; and the ‘Plan Repsol’ in the City of Málaga - a master plan that includes city’s tallest building and city’s largest recreational park, currently all under development.
In 2007 Ignacio was awarded with the first prize for the design of Iberdrola’s new Corporate Campus: a master plan consisting in a 400,000 square feet GFA distributed in 8 buildings that share a 350,000 square feet canopy structure above it to provide shade and renewable energy systems - all completed in 2019. The project has been awarded with LEED Gold.
In 2011 Ignacio lead the design and construction of AIRE Ancient Baths in TriBeCa, a project awarded by ‘Condé Nast Traveler’ as best SPA in the world in 2013 and awarded in Spain in 2014 as best interior design of the year by ‘NAN Construcción y Arquitectura’.
Since then Ignacio has become responsible of the design and construction of multiple residential projects and new water spa and wellness facilities, all in New York City area and US territory, including the Gurney’s Montauk Seawater Spa, the only ocean-fed seawater pool in North America.
Ignacio’s drawings has been exhibited in the Pompidou Center in Paris and at the London Museum of Design as part of the Richard Rogers exhibition ‘Richard Rogers + Architects’ and published on Richard Rogers book ‘Architecture of the future’ .
Ignacio is currently involved in the celebrations of Architect Josep Lluis Sert’s 50th anniversary of the Roosevelt Island project alongside with the Farragut Fund.
As a New Yorker, Ignacio is a vivid runner and he’s been a qualifier and finisher of several marathons, including the tragic 2013 Boston Marathon.
